Changes in the Traffic Code in Buenos Aires

The Government of Buenos Aires plans to reform the traffic code, making it easier to renew licenses and reducing the frequency of tests for those over 60 years old.

Changes in the Traffic Code in Buenos Aires

The Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, announced that the Government plans to implement a series of changes to the traffic code. Among the most notable modifications is the elimination of the requirement to renew the driver's license in person throughout the country, as long as the provinces accept it.

According to Sturzenegger, the reform aims to simplify the system, thus facilitating the license renewal process. It is established that people aged 60 or 65 must continue to attend in person to take the test more frequently for road safety reasons.

To carry out the license renewal, it will not be necessary to pass theoretical or practical exams, unless the document has expired for more than a year. In the case of the City of Buenos Aires, before choosing a venue, the applicant is required to have a valid National Identity Document, have completed the virtual traffic renewal talk, have no violations, have paid the Smart Unique Receipt, and the National Traffic Background Certificate (CENAT). Additionally, in case of suffering from any illness or being under medical treatment, a certificate or medical studies will be requested.

The appointment for renewal will be managed through the official website of the Government of the City. Sturzenegger stated in a radio interview that the reform will be comprehensive and emphasized that municipalities are also expected to join the initiative, as these processes are often used as local revenue collection mechanisms.
